Class Descriptions

Mixed Age

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age seven through all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and when exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.

Our 9-week Winter Session begins January 09 and will run through March 10.  This session will feature the Bells collection and you will receive a copy of the illustrated songbook and 2 identical CDs as part of your tuition.

Babies Class - Birth to 8 months only

A child is never too young to hear and respond to music or language! This version of our program has been especially designed to introduce babies from birth through 8 months and their parents and other caregivers to the Music Together experience. The music activities have been carefully chosen to suit you and your infant. The Babies Song collections represent a balanced and rich vocabulary of music and movement for your baby's development and for your whole family to enjoy. The Babies Class will be offered at 12:00pm on Tuesdays, with Michelle Jamail. Please click on our Demo Scheduler or call us at 371-9506 to sign up to attend a free sample class!

Music Together Big Kids™ (5-7 year olds)

Music Together Big Kids™ is a 60-minute class geared to the interests and abilities of  5-7 year-olds. The program blends the elements of Music Together that parents and children love with new activities, skills, and challenges that are developmentally appropriate for this age group.

Big Kids classes lay the foundation for Basic Music Literacy, complementing music instruction in school or instrument lessons, and leading to a lifetime of joyful music-making. The curriculum includes solfège, solos and ensembles, folk dances, harmony singing, vocal development, and drumming. In a safe, fun environment, your child can experiment with new activities like conducting and improvisation, story songs, and game songs.

Parent attendance is welcome but not required. Each family receives a Big Kids songbook, CD, solfège cards, and HomePlay activities, so that the entire family can continue the fun and learning at home and parents can stay connected with what the child is learning in class.

This class will take the place of the Heartsong Children's Choir starting this fall and will be led by Carey Youngblood. Our 9-week Winter Session begins January 9 and will run through March 10. (We will be closed the week of Thanksgiving, November 20-26.)  Class will be offered on Tuesdays at 4:00pm and a second class will be offered on Wednesdays at 4:00pm and co-taught by Johann Wood. If you have a 5 to 7 year old, we invite you to attend a sample class, to experience what Music Together Big Kids™ is like!  You can schedule this free class by calling (512) 371-9506.

Intergenerational Mixed Age Music Together

We are also offering Inter-Generational Mixed Age Music Together classes that will take place at an assisted living facility for seniors in the Austin community. This is an opportunity to offer Music Together to the elders of our community who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the Music Together program! The 9-week session will include the children and their parents/caregivers as well as the residents of the home. One class will be lead by Becca Myers on Tuesdays at 10:00am at Emeritus of Austin and a second class will be lead by Edie Elkjer on Wednesdays at 10:15am at the Renaissance Austin Retirement Residence.  A third class will also be offered at the The Summit at Northwest Hills by Sabine Heath on Fridays at 10:00am.

Intergenerational classes are offered at a reduced tuition rate from our other classes which take place on-site at Heartsong Music. Tuition for the first child is $180, the second sibling is $115, and the third sibling is $80. There is a $5.00 processing fee for returning families and a $15.00 processing fee for new families. Babies 10 months and younger at the time of registration are free when an older sibling registers, but are to be included in the registration. Tuition includes a beautiful songbook and 2 CD's from the Bells collection.
