Vanessa was excellent at including all the children, including "Spiderman" and "Benten" (3 year old who came in costume to class). Vanessa was always upbeat, energetic, and a great leader for parents (who aren't experienced with music). Great experience for all of us!

My friend, Carey Youngblood, has an AWESOME Music Together studio in central Austin. She is one of the most LOVING persons I know in the world, and she lives to share the gift of music with children and their families. I have a bachelor's degree in MUSIC and taught music for several years, and am very critical of any type of musical instruction, and this program is top notch! And, you bring the music home to share with your family at home. Also-they ENCOURAGE you to come and play in their lobby/play room before and after classes-so it's a great mommy/parent and child hang-out!

Heartsong Music and Carey Youngblood are amazing! I can't say enough wonderful things about her and her classes! She actually has a bunch of teachers leading a variety of classes but she teaches some too. It is her love and her passion and you can really see it in the business and the class itself. Music Together really clicks with me. I have to be honest and say that I continue going not just for my kids but for me as well - I love it!

When I see a
recommendation for Carey Youngblood, I have to chime in. She is a VERY
dear friend of mine. My girls started taking classes with her when we
moved here almost 8 years ago. The only
thing I've ever really done besides homeschooling is Early Childhood
Education. I have a master's degree in Education, but more importantly,
was raised by a pre-school teacher and have been around pre-school teachers all
of my live. Carey is one of those one-in-a- million teachers that you
search for and search for and hardly ever find. She is a woman with a
beautiful soul and she loves children and music equally. More than
anything, she values every other soul she meets. I would put her in the
top three of all of the teachers I've ever known, and I've known LOTS of
pre-school teachers. Bottom
line - you will feel better about yourself after you are with her for a few
minutes. And she loves children - can you imagine how your child will
feel? She
has a great facility near Burnet and Anderson
Lane. The waiting room is like a
Montessori classroom (she has Montessori training) and is such a wonderland the
kids never want to go home. From what she says, the mothers have started
their own little community and often have park days afterwords, etc.

Dear Carey, thanks for such a great year of classes. Mollie has enjoyed it beyond words. She was born with a love for music, but this class has allowed her to explore rhythm and sound (even pitch and tone) well beyond what I could teach her at home. Further, she has learned self-confidence as she is less shy about singing in front of the class (and anyone who will listen!). I hope she continues to express herself musically. I can tell you that I find myself singing everything to her - I can make a song from just about anything - brushing teeth, eating our broccoli, going to school. I owe that talent to you as well!
You are an AMAZING teacher and fascinating to observe. The love you have for children and music is so apparent each and every day. It amazes me how you maintain your energy level throughout the day, class after class. If I could describe the class with only one word, it would be "happy." You're always smiling, the songs are upbeat and fun, and kids are laughing. It's just a happy place to be.
Blessings to you, your family and staff this Christmas. May 2007 bring you as much happiness as you bring all of those around you.

Carey is warm and engaging. Also, she is not at all intimidating even though her voice is amazing. At first I thought my son was too young for formal music lessons (he was 3 months at the open house) but I decided to take him to the demo anyway. I was delightfully surprised that he was SO into the class. He was mesmerized by the other children and especially by Carey...My son can be pretty fussy at times, but when we were in class he was alert and engaged...I am so glad I decided to enroll him at this age. Thank you.

Tuesday, Jay's class had to stay inside for recess because of the rain. I volunteered to lead a sing-a-long with the kids so they could get some of their sillies out and the teachers could get a break. We wrote a story about what we had done that day (Today I drove to school in the rain. I jumped in the puddles in the parking lot, etc.) Then, we set these "verses" to the tune of the Sweet Potato song. We changed the chorus to, "Roo, roo, roo, roo/Sing roo, with the Orkamodos" (their class name). They loved it! Music Together to the rescue again!
We love you so much! Thanks for all the joy you bring to me and my kids.

Dear Carey,
Sometimes as a teacher it is hard to know how much of your instruction is being retained, especially when the student is a little boy who runs in circles the entire class time. I wanted you to know and see how much you touch our lives everyday, and we thank you for giving us these moments to cherish forever. (Then they gave Carey a DVD of their 22 month old singing "do, re, mi" using the solfege handsigns while sitting on his potty chair!)

In Toni, Teri, and Elijah's Holiday Letter:
"Teri and Elijah enjoyed weekly "Music Together" classes led by the delightful Carey Youngblood. If you haven't heard about these classes already, they basically give the adults permission to sing and dance and bang on percussion instruments, regardless of ability. The idea is that parent modeling is the best way to teach kids. Toni even joined us for a couple of classes. It was a blast...and the kids liked it, too!"

Carey,
I thought you would get a kick out of this! We went to Rockport over the weekend and while out to eat, a band was playing. The band guy asked for help from Patrick and Elizabeth. Elizabeth was too shy, but Patrick jumped up on stage, sat on this guy's lap and started strumming the guitar while the band played! I was so shocked! Anyway- pretty neat huh?!

Carey,
I thought you would appreciate this. I'm sure you notice how my son Max chooses to observe much more than to participate during class. Well, afterwards he had me sing the Russian lullaby song the entire way home while he told me things to sing about. Then, when we arrived home, we finally cracked open the CD and spent the next hour+ singing and dancing to all the songs we hear in class when he sits not moving. And he knew all the movements, even better than I did and I do them in class. You should have seen him jumping around the room to Jumping Josie (which he requested before we even got home - I didn't even know he knew the name of the song!). And I am not exagerating when I say that we had to jump around to that song at least 15 times tonight (talk about an aerobic workout!). So, my point is that clearly he is benefitting from the class, even if he looks miserable the whole time :-).
Thanks!
Andrea

8/12/04 Journal entry by Geeta Suggs about her 2 year old son.
"Today we had our music class. We sang "This Land is Your Land" and you sang the first verse loudly and Ms. Carey stopped playing the guitar and came and sat next to you to here you singing. I got tears in my eyes because that was the first time I heard you sing in public loudly without any help from me. And I didn't think you even knew the words. You seem to have great retention for the lyrics of any song these days. You're a quick learner, too. At the end of class today, Ms. Carey gave you one of her picks for her guitar. OH MY...what a treat! That was great! You put it in your pocket and when we got home you played all day long. Playing the guitar with the pick even beat being outside. Grandma and Grandfather came over. You played for them. You would tell us "You no sing" if we started to sing with you. You wanted to do it yourself. Then at the end of the song, you said, "Can you clap?" as if to tell us "Hey, I'm done, now applaud." Very funny and very two!"

Letter to the Parents, Feb. 2004, Hyde Park Baptist Child Development Center Classroom teacher of 1 year old children
"I wish every one of you could be with us for Music Class. You would be amazed at what your children can do. When Ms. Carey comes into the room you can sense the anticipation as the children come sit close to a teacher to get ready for the activities. They imitate her as she pats out rhythms, sings tonal patterns, and as they play the rhythm instruments. What's really amazing is the way this carries over day to day. We often see and hear the children start singing tonal patterns as they're playing and when they start playing with a musical toy they'll start patting out the rhythm. Several of them can even sing songs with us. We see all this musical knowledge carry over into their lives through their expanded memory skills. So we can say it's not just musical skills they're learning, but life skills as well."
Lois Matthews, teacher at HPBCDC

A grandmother of a 2 year old wrote Carey a note, Jan. 18, 2004:
"Lindsey misses you. She says "Ask Ms. Carey". When she gets in my car she says "We're going to music class?" She sings and dances to the CD. She knows almost all the words to most of the songs. She likes to act out the description of the words on the CD. When she sings with her guitar she likes to sing loud and then quietly - something she picked up in your class. Her brother, Bennett, arrived Jan. 7. We will see you at the next session which begins in March."
